Animal Politico is one of our biggest projects so far.
Right from the start, they had a clear target in mind, that is to become the no.1 political website in Mexico. We couldn’t resist this challenge.
Looking at some of the stats, which show almost 500.000 pageviews in the first month after launch, I would say they are getting closer to that goal pretty fast.

We took WordPress, worked some magic and extended it’s capabilities to fit the exact custom requirements of this bold project.

It needed things like custom user profiles, which allowed readers to interact and helped the staff find out more about their audience. We extended custom authentication with Facebook connect plugin integration. A newsletter solution was a must, so we used Mailchimp‘s API to integrate it with WordPress.
Engaging content required a lot of custom page templates, for sections like photo galleries or videos.
Increased editorial control meant options like custom sorting of articles, or using custom taxonomy for positioning.

Another important part was the high traffic optimization process. We worked together with the Spikepress team, to make the site scale fast and handle huge traffic.

Animal Politico is work in progress. We’re still testing and improving, always making sure readers enjoy an enhanced web experience.
