Crystalline – A crystal sharp Child Theme for Thematic

crystalline_thumb
After the really good response I’ve got from the community regarding the Byty Child Theme and the CatDrop Child Theme over at cozmoslabs.com I wanted to develop more Child Themes and release them for free.

With a touch of purple and green, this simple theme would look lovely on any personal blog. I’ve removed the top menu so if you need it you’ll have to add the “Pages” Widget to the left side of the theme.

Preview Child ThemeDownload Crystalline Child Theme Version 1.1
In order to install it you have to download the Thematic Theme (from which this child theme inherits all of the functionality), upload both themes (Crystalline and Thematic) to your server in the themes folder AND THEN ACTIVATE the Crystalline theme.

I would appreciate your feedback and if you find bugs please add a comment so I can fix them!

I hope you enjoy using this theme as much as I enjoyed developing it!

    How would I make a menu for Recent Posts, instead of having them all on front page.
    I have looked, but cannot find.
    Plug-in?
    Thank-you.

      Try and add it to the Primary or Secondary Asides Widget area! The Widget is called Recent Posts. Let me know if that worked for you!

    Hi, thanks for this theme! It’s just lovely.

    I’m using it for a client’s site: http://www.laviniaplonka/creativebody

    However, the thematic options at the bottom for [wp-link] and [blog-title] etc don’t seem to be working. Any ideas?

      The site is looking lovely! I just haven’t had the time to update the theme to the latest Thematic version! A quick fix will be to delete the footer.php in my Child Theme. Back it up, delete it and let me know if it did the trick!

    Love your theme. I would like to learn how to change the font in the posts and pages.

    • Posted June 8, 2009 at 6:33 pm | Permalink

      Hi Annie. You can do that through css. Open the style.css inside the Crystalline theme and where the body { } is declared you can change the styling of your text!

    Thanks so much for this child theme. I have been using it at my site for almost a year, and I still love it. I was just wondering, though, if you could remove one of the words “search” in the top right hand corner. It is a little redundant as it currently is. =)

    Do you plan to create more child themes in the future?

      Just add:

      #top_search label{
      display:none;
      }

      To the css of the Crystalline Child theme. That should do the trick.

    Would you be willing to update this theme soon to allow for 3.0’s new customizations under Appearance > Menus? It would be much appreciated!

      This theme doesn’t have a menu. It only has widget sidebars where you can add your menu.

      The current theme does not natively support menus, but you can use the “Custom Menu” widget to add any menus you create here to the theme’s sidebar… so there isn’t any updating to be done :)

      • Posted July 19, 2010 at 8:15 pm | Permalink

        That’s what I’m referring too…..it’s not allowing me to create any Custom Menus to put in my sidebar. Any ideas?

        • Posted July 20, 2010 at 12:16 am | Permalink

          Let me clarify my problem:

          You mentioned above that you removed the top menu. Is there a way I can put it back? Correct me if I’m wrong – but I think that the removal of the top menu is what is preventing me from using custom menu options offered in WP 3.0.

          Originally, I was thinking the problem was with Thematic. However, I have another site using Thematic (but a different child theme) that it is allowing me to use the custom menu options in 3.0 without any issues.

          Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello JM,
    I tested the theme in 3.0, and managed to create a custom menu which I than included in the widget sidebars and it works ok. Still there are some issues regarding styling that we will fix soon, so the theme will work perfectly on wp 3.0.

      Thanks for the reply. I’m beginning to wonder if there’s perhaps one of my plugins which is causing the problem and not allowing me to create a custom menu. Time for some trial and error, I suppose!

      I still would like to know how to put a horizontal menu across the top, if anyone has any ideas.

      Thanks for all the help.
